What This Tool Will Do
Definitive Screening Designs (DSDs) are revolutionary three-level designs that identify important factors and estimate quadratic effects in remarkably few runs.
This assistant will help you:
- Specify the number of factors to screen
- Generate optimal three-level screening designs
- Minimize the required number of experimental runs
- Estimate main effects, two-factor interactions, and quadratic effects
- Efficiently screen large numbers of factors
Why Definitive Screening Designs?
Extremely efficient: Screen many factors in just 2m+1 runs (where m = number of factors). For 6 factors, only 13 runs needed!
More information: Unlike traditional screening designs, DSDs can estimate quadratic (curvature) effects, not just main effects and interactions.
No confounding: Main effects are not confounded with two-factor interactions or quadratic effects, giving you clearer results.
Three-level design: Tests each factor at low, medium, and high levels, capturing more information about factor behavior.
When to Use DSDs
Early in development: When you have many potential factors and need to identify which ones are important.
Limited resources: When you need maximum information with minimum experimental runs.
Curvature suspected: When you expect non-linear (quadratic) effects in your response.
Follow-up optimization: As a first step before a full response surface design focusing on active factors.
